Habit strength is a function of repetition. This is an instance of Thorndike's law of effect. 

Thorndike added to a law that refers to behavior conditioning. If someone were to keep working and create a habit with something, they are more likely to keep succeeding. Responses that produce a satisfying effect in a situation keep happening.
