The GDP (wealth) in many countries grew greatly during the 20th century. Because people and countries themselves had more money, the quality of life grew. Sanitation and sewer systems became more regular, and more regulations and protections in the workplace made work safer. Thus, with a higher quality of life, people were living long and having more children.
