Democracy first appeared in the "Poleis"(meaning state-city) of Athens, i.e., part of the ancient Greece. It was based on the the freedom of citizens and it literally means in Greek "Government of the People". Clashes between rich and poor found a general solution due to Solon, a former poet derived in lawman who made the first moves towards democracy.
